One of the photos I took on a trip to the Memphis Zoo Sunday. We went to see the Pandas but they weren't active.

Western Swing - I just spent a couple of days in LA, land of the pooper scooper, where even the homeless buy their morning coffee at Starbucks and converse intelligently about geo-politics and the stock market.
In Tennessee it is considered rude not to speak to someone. In LA personal privacy and space are so scarce that I hesitate to intrude unless there is a signal that conversation is welcome. By the time I interpret the signs, however, the conversational opportunity is gone. I won't say they're unfriendly, but their timing is different and it throws me off.
I also spent a couple of days in Mountain View (Silicon Valley) so I've been to the Mecca but it looks suspiciously like China Town. Four out of five restaurants are Oriental: Chinese, Thai, Singaporean, Korean, Japanese, Vietnamese, etc.
