God's Hourglass (poem)
Howl at the Night (lyrics)
Perception (lyrics)

God's Hourglass (c) 2004
by Gerald Drumwright

An angel whispered in my ear
The day that I turned 40
That sometimes time runs backward
So I really shouldn't worry
The secret's in our mind, you see
To choose whatever age to be
Though never underestimate
Fear, our old arch-enemy

So if you find your life grows richer
Mind and body sharp
Wrinkles vanish over time
Music in your heart
I'd guess you wrestled Fear
and pinned him to the ground
And God has smiled and turned
Your hourglass upside down.

Howl At the Night (lyrics) (c) 1995
by Gerald Drumwright

1) Rhythm of the Earth keeps on calling me
Sun and Moon and stars just won't let me be
Age old feelings stirring deep inside
Strong as the pull of a full moon tide

Chorus:
Put war paint on my face
Strip my body of the human race
Howl at the night
Dancin' in the firelight

2) I don't quite understand why I feel so out of place
or why I keep on pushing at this breakneck pace
Driving my own hearse to my grave site every day
Coat and tie and socks and shoes and feet of clay

Chorus:
Put war paint on my face
Strip my body of the human race
Howl at the night
Dancin' in the firelight

3) Richness of the darkened earth as its tilled by hand
Life in all its many forms rising from the land
One to eat the cricket, one to eat the snake
One to feed the fish and one to help the flowers mate

Chorus:
Put war paint on my face
Strip my body of the human race
Howl at the night
Dancin' in the firelight

PERCEPTION (lyrics)(c) 1994
by Gerald Drumwright

1. You see me in the suburbs,
painted house and manicured lawn
You carpool kids, and fix the meals,
While I bring the bacon home
But I'd rather sail to tropical islands,
Salt and spray are more my taste
Backstroke in bluest waters,
Sun beating on my face

CHORUS
We seem to have a difference in perception
Your rose colored glasses
create a strange deception
You cast me as Ozzie Nelson, yes you did
When anyone can plainly see,
I'm more like Billy the Kid

2. You'd like the security,
of wedding vows and what they bring
A permanent commitment,
and diamond wedding rings
I prefer a carefree lifestyle,
when I please to come and go
Spend some time in Colorado,
winter on the coast of Mexico

CHORUS
We seem to have a difference in perception
Your rose colored glasses
create a strange deception
You cast me as Ozzie Nelson, yes you did
When anyone can plainly see,
I'm more like Billy the Kid

3. The world of Ozzie and Harriet,
worked well in black and white
But Harriet is quite inappropriate,
In these days of women's rights.
And could Billy in all good conscience,
with a wife and kids at home
Rob banks and spend months in hiding,
and leave them all alone

CHORUS
We seem to have a difference in perception
Your rose colored glasses
create a strange deception
You cast me as Ozzie Nelson, yes you did
When anyone can plainly see,
I'm more like Billy the Kid
